Lengthy repair to a key part of the rig

During the videoconference held today with the crew, Jaume Mumbrú spoke about the damage that occurred a few days ago to the mainsheet traveller, which they had to repair by themselves. The mainsheet traveller is a key part of the We Are Water rig. As its name indicates, it runs along a track, enabling it to move along the width of the boat. In this way, the skipper can better control the boom angle and the tension placed on the sail by the mainsheet, which is the rope used to control any sail on board.

The photos illustrate the damage to the mainsheet traveller of the We Are Water. The screws broke on the pad eye holding one of the blocks (on the right-hand side of the photo 2) attached to the traveller (bottom photo). Cali Sanmartí, who is an engineer, had to take the traveller apart, which meant taking out the ball bearing to remove the broken pad eye and replace it with another one, in this case a pad eye of similar dimensions taken from the deck. The new block (on the left-hand side of the photo 2) was fixed to the new pad eye with textile fibre. The traveller was then replaced on the track, and each ball was put back in the bearing. The repair was a lengthy process that took almost an entire day.
