In many of the poorest areas of the world the usage rate of mobile telephones is higher than the water access rate. Various emerging projects offer simple and sustainable technological tools based on the GSM which adapt to the basic needs of areas with hydric stress. These are real ICTs in which people replace sensors and become operating agents in places where there are none.

When life is measured in drops

A water drop lost in the irrigation process is a treasure lost in the soil. The farmers with an increasingly menaced future due to drought cannot stand still while the little water they have left evaporates: without it they are bound to extreme poverty. The drip irrigation systems avoid the evaporation of water and the misery of those who lose it. For all of them each drop is the treasure of a lifetime.

The fourth edition of the We Art Water Film Festival is already a booming global communication wonder. The jury, made up of celebrities from the film, communication and NGOs sectors, was presented at the San Sebastian Film Festival. All members highlighted the importance of a festival that has become a reference point in the film industry as an exceptional testimony of the water scarcity and sanitation problems in the world, an also of their solutions.

One of the greatest challenges India is facing is to provide women with the access to decent and safe latrines and bathrooms. It is essential to end open defecation to move forward towards gender equality. Millions of women in India do not have access to clean water, toilets or personal hygiene. Apart from an important investment in infrastructures, this goal also requires substantial sociocultural and educational advances.
