On the 14 th July 2018, the European Water Polo Championships Barcelona 2018 arrived in Montjuic, hand in hand with the We Are Water Foundation, with the aim of highlighting the importance of good environmental practices and the responsible use of water in an international sports event.
In order to raise awareness of the environmental culture among all water polo and sports fans, the Organizing Committee of the European Water Polo Championships Barcelona 2018 created its own Sustainability project in which we find, among others, the Green Office, consisting of a series of actions carried out with the aim of minimizing the environmental impact.
These include recycling under the name TCF- Chlorine free, prioritizing the use of e-mail to send information to avoid multiple printing, reusing used paper, using natural light, monitoring ambient temperature, reducing the use of water or producing sustainable merchandising elements.
Therefore, the We Are Water Foundation forged a partnership with Barcelona 2018 with the aim of carrying out a series of actions that help alleviate the negative effects of the lack of adequate water resources all around the world.
What role do we play?
Within the framework of the sustainable project of Barcelona 2018, the We Are Water Foundation was present in one of the tents on Market Street at the Picornell swimming pool in Barcelona developing a workshop for children aimed at introducing the processes of making water drinkable. Moreover, the proceeds from the sale of recyclable glasses and T-shirts were used for the Foundation’s projects.
About NoWalking4Water
Every day, millions of boys and girls have to walk up to 6 km to fetch water for the domestic use of their families, thus complicating or preventing their access to the educational system. With the aim of denouncing this fact, in 2016 the We Are Water Foundation launched the awareness-raising campaign #NoWalking4Water with the collaboration of such renowned personalities as Josep Maria Bartomeu, President of FC Barcelona; Clara Basiana, member of the synchronized swimming Olympic team; Enric Masip, former captain of the Barcelona handball team; Julio Salinas, former player of FC Barcelona and of the national team; Pablo Lima, professional paddle tennis player, among others.
Throughout the championship, it was possible to participate in the campaign with an activity in which the young ones were able to experiment first-hand what children in the most disadvantaged countries have to do to get water.
