World Water Day 2011: the We Are Water Foundation has conducted a study on freshwater consumption and saving in Spain.

  • More people die as a result of illnesses linked with contaminated water every year than from all forms of violence.
  • More than 2,500 million people (40% of the global population) have no access to adequate sanitation, and 1,000 million people have no basic water supply.
  • 90% of the water used in developing countries is dumped into rivers, lakes and seas without being treated.
  • 76% of Spaniards acknowledge that they could save more water without any significant loss of quality of life.
