The short film aligns with the goal of the program\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"Hyperlink0\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><a href=\"http:\/\/swachhbharatmission.gov.in\/sbmcms\/index.htm\">Swachh Bharat<\/a><\/span><\/span><span class=\"Ninguno\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0(Clean India)\u00a0of the Government of India: to achieve the total coverage of hygienic services in homes before the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> October 2019, the International Day of Non-Violence, the anniversary of the birth of <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Hyperlink1\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Mahatma Gandhi<\/span><\/span><span class=\"Ninguno\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">, the father of Indian independence.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span class=\"Ninguno\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Although officially abolished in the 1950 Constitution, the caste system continues to be present in the social behavior of most of the population in India. This attitude, defined by the Government as one of the barriers to the development of the country, is particularly evident in the status of the domestic staff in cities.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span class=\"Ninguno\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The reminiscences of the strict norms of this social hierarchization system of the Hindu tradition are evident in the customs and habits of many economically well-established families that employ women as servants in their homes. Generally, these are not allowed to use the same bathrooms as the families they clean for, and therefore there are often paradoxical situations like the one shown in the short film.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span class=\"Ninguno\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">More than 40% of the women in India live confined to domestic work and most of them suffer the discrimination linked to some of the taboos of the caste system, which mixes the division of labor with ancestral ideas of purity, thus distorting the concept of personal and domestic hygiene. Many of them, as they are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wearewater.org\/en-in\/ni-una-escuela-ni-un-hogar-ni-una-mujer-sin-saneamiento-digno_307251\">not\u00a0allowed to use the bathrooms<\/a> where they work, are obliged to use unhealthy toilets or simply stop on the road or in a field, exposing themselves to risks such as sexual assaults or thefts.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Body\"><span class=\"Ninguno\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">These women also suffer <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Hyperlink2\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wearewater.org\/en-in\/inodoros-por-la-libertad-salud-y-dignidad-de-las-mujeres_285651\">gender inequality<\/a><\/span><\/span><span class=\"Ninguno\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"> since they are one of the historically most marginalized groups, especially vulnerable to situations of exploitation as cheap labor or close to slavery and mostly invisible to the rest of society. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"featured_media":16632,"template":"","categories":[136,110,124],"class_list":["post-35709","waw_insight","type-waw_insight","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-gender-equality-en-in","category-sanitation-and-hygiene-en-in","category-waw-film-festival-en-in"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.2 -
