Their situation within the social structure forces them to be a step behind all other castes, and therefore they usually live beside the roads, in very poor conditions and without sanitary services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wearewater.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/277451-edited-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3481\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.499267935578331;width:780px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wearewater.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/277451-edited-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.wearewater.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/277451-edited-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.wearewater.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/277451-edited-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.wearewater.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/277451-edited-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.wearewater.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/277451-edited.jpg 1446w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In this context, nearly 600 million Indian people are forced to defecate in the open, as there is no latrine within their reach. The consequences for public health are disastrous, especially for the most vulnerable groups of population: women, children and disabled people.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to end this practice, the Indian government launched the campaign \u201cClean India Mission\u201d in October 2014, naming the Vicente Ferrer Foundation ambassador of the programme<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In detail<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The base of the project is the construction of 44.000 toilets in more than 400 villages in the Anantapur and Kurnool districts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This will be a great change of mentality that will contribute to create decent sanitary spaces that preserve the privacy of people and help prevent sexual assaults to women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project focuses on the construction of sanitation facilities, with the necessary conditions of healthiness, hygiene and safety for all beneficiaries.
