Icíar Bollaín

Film director

Spanish film director and actress. Her acting career started when she was 15 years old, and she starred in numerous feature films. Later on she founded “Producciones la Iguana” with two partners, and took her first steps as a director. She has directed over 20 films and has won numerous awards and recognitions.

She directed También la lluvia in 2010, a film about Christopher Columbus and the Discovery of America while, at the same time, the Water War was taking place in Bolivia from January to April 2000. This is a context based on real facts, in which the population of one of the poorest nations in South America rose up against a powerful U.S. multinational company and recovered a basic resource: water.
