The commercial sector, especially through shopping malls, their shops and the rest of establishments that make it up (mixed uses), is one of the main developments that are taking place at an international level and especially in Latin America.
Most of the social activity takes place in these shopping centres, which are becoming ncreasingly sophisticated, not only in regard to the experience of the visitor/client, but also focusing on the need of having a sustainable environment.
Architecture and design in shopping malls and mixed uses are greatly innovating to create sustainable spaces where water is the key issue. Their importance in the conception of neighbourhoods, villages, cities or tourist destinations, among others, means that its development needs to be proactively integrated into the integral water cycle.
The evolution of shopping malls towards mixed use projects is related, among other things, to the need of generating the design of spaces and projects that coexist while cooperating with the optimized management of resources.
Due to the increasing social importance of these spaces, there is a greater capacity to influence and raise awareness among citizens and visitors of the shopping centre through architecture, technology and design.
