We Are Water Foundation presents the boat and crew which will take part in the Barcelona World Race
The yacht will be the vehicle for spreading the Roca We Are Water Foundation´s message across the seven seas.
The We Are Water Foundation presented the We Are Water yacht and the crew which will take part in the second edition of the Barcelona World Race starting on 31st December.
We Are Water Foundation is taking part in the Barcelona World Race because it considers the race to be an effective way of communicating the values and messages of We Are Water Foundation to the world. Participation in the race will highlight the importance of water for survival, given that the race participants will have to endure extremely harsh climatic conditions. It represents a gesture of solidarity with all those areas of the world which experience difficulties in accessing drinking water.
Jaume Mumbrú and Cali Sanmartí, together with Jordi Griso, who heads up the land crew, will be the skippers in charge of conveying these messages and bearing the We Are Water Foundation´s name and logo throughout the Barcelona World Race. Taking advantage of both the sporting and human challenge which this extreme race represents and the reputation that accompanies it, the We Are Water Foundation plans to leverage this powerful vehicle to publicize the need to alleviate the negative effects associated with the lack of water resources in the world, through the development of cooperation and aid programmes with various NGOs such as Intermón Oxfam, UNICEF, Educación Sin Fronteras or the Vicente Ferrer Foundation.
The work of We Are Water Foundation and the team was commended during the presentation of the We Are Water yacht at the Fundació Navegació Oceànica in Barcelona (FNOB) and the Barcelona City Council, as an example of achievement and professionalism, principles which will also accompany them around the globe.
Fundació Navegació Oceànica Barcelona and the Barcelona World Race
The Barcelona Ocean Navigation Foundation (FNOB) was created in 2005 with the objective of raising the general public's awareness of the culture of the sea and to contribute to raising competitive round the world ocean-sailing to its rightful status in accordance with Spain's great maritime tradition and heritage. The creation of the FNOB was the result of the work of a platform established by the Barcelona City Council, the Barcelona Fira, the Barcelona Port Authorities and the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the EL FAR Consortium which provides technical management and assistance.
One of the FNOB flagship projects is the Barcelona World Race (BWR), which is holding its second edition this year, starting on Friday 31st December 2010.
The BWR is the only IMOCA Open 60 double-handed, non-stop, round-the-world race which in this, its second edition, will bring together the best international sailors, linking the world of single-handed and team ocean competitions with the latest generation of single-hull boats.
