Escasa educaci\u00f3n a las comunidades sobre las pr\u00e1cticas de higiene. Alta mortalidad infantil a causa de enfermedades diarreicas relacionadas el agua.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La situaci\u00f3n en la Rep\u00fablica Democr\u00e1tica del Congo ha sido clasificada como <strong>la peor emergencia posible en \u00c1frica durante las \u00faltimas d\u00e9cadas<\/strong>, con la gran mayor\u00eda de su infraestructura destruida por la guerra y falta de mantenimiento.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En la Rep\u00fablica Democr\u00e1tica del Congo, menos del 29% de la poblaci\u00f3n en las zonas rurales tiene acceso al agua potable y menos de un 31% cuenta con servicios de saneamiento adecuados.<br>La falta de estos servicios b\u00e1sicos son causantes directos de diarrea, por la que mueren anualmente un 14% de los ni\u00f1os menores de 5 a\u00f1os, y de brotes epid\u00e9micos de c\u00f3lera, que causan m\u00e1s de 20.000 muertes al a\u00f1o particularmente en las provicinas de Katanga Oriental, Kivu del Norte y del Sur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wearewater.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/foto-1-congo_20419-edited.jpg\" alt=\"Foto 1 Congo\" class=\"wp-image-3536\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wearewater.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/foto-1-congo_20419-edited.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.wearewater.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/foto-1-congo_20419-edited-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.wearewater.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/foto-1-congo_20419-edited-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.wearewater.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/foto-1-congo_20419-edited-600x450.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">En detalle<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>El proyecto, que se localiza en los distritos este y sur de la Rep\u00fablica Democr\u00e1tica del Congo, tiene por objetivo erradicar el c\u00f3lera mejorando el acceso al agua potable y a las instalaciones de saneamiento.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Para conseguirlo, se van a excavar pozos y establecer los emplazamientos para la extracci\u00f3n de agua. La gesti\u00f3n, funcionamiento y mantenimiento de estos estar\u00e1 a cargo de la propia comunidad y para ello, recibir\u00e1n formaciones y seguimiento. Adem\u00e1s, se formar\u00e1 a voluntarios y agentes de salud que realizar\u00e1n visitas a domicilio para sensibilizar y educar sobre buenas pr\u00e1cticas de higiene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A trav\u00e9s de estas iniciativas, se conseguir\u00e1n los siguientes resultados concretos:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>20.000 personas de 30 aldeas y \u00e1reas cercanas a las ciudades, tendr\u00e1n mejor acceso al agua potable y se ver\u00e1n libres de la amenaza del c\u00f3lera.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unas 20.000 personas tendr\u00e1n acceso a un mejor saneamiento.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Un 80% de hogares, que usan letrinas en condiciones higi\u00e9nicas, ser\u00e1 capaz de llevar a cabo su mantenimiento.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>El 80% de hogares eliminar\u00e1 de forma higi\u00e9nica sus propios residuos dom\u00e9sticos.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>El 60% de la poblaci\u00f3n se lavar\u00e1 las manos antes de una comida y despu\u00e9s del uso de las letrinas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>El 70% de la poblaci\u00f3n podr\u00e1 llegar a comprender que la transmisi\u00f3n fecal-oral se convierte en una enfermedad y as\u00ed llegar a purificar el agua en casa.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-block-embed-vimeo wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Proyecto en la RD del Congo\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/20594003?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; UNICEF is also working to: provide safe water to camps for the displaced; build latrines to help prevent disease outbreaks; supply health centres; support measles immunizations; distribute basic non-food items; and support efforts to reunite children separated from their families. Partners include the Government and major donor countries; other UN agencies; and international NGOs, including Solidarit\u00e9 Internationale, International Medical Corps, the International Rescue Committee, Mercy Corps and Save the Children UK. UNICEF has requested US $12 million in additional emergency funding to cover immediate needs for three months.
